Job Overview:
As a Bureau News Reporter at News Channel Nebraska, you will play a vital role in reporting on local events, developing news stories, and delivering high-quality news coverage and content to our readers or viewers. This position is based in our bureau office and focuses on covering news relevant to the specific region.
Key Responsibilities:
- News Reporting: Research, investigate, and report on local and regional news stories, events, and developments.
- Field Reporting: Conduct interviews, gather information, and capture video footage or photographs in the field, covering a wide range of topics including local news, community events, and human-interest stories.
- Story Writing: Write, edit, and produce news stories for publication or broadcast, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to journalistic standards.
- Breaking News Coverage: Be ready to cover breaking news events and adapt to evolving situations during live reporting.
- Interviews: Conduct interviews with community members, local officials, and experts to provide diverse perspectives on news stories.
- Data Gathering: Utilize research, data, and local sources to enhance news reporting.
- Photography or Videography: Capture and edit photographs or video footage to accompany news stories, ensuring quality and relevance.
- Audience Engagement: Engage with the audience through social media platforms, responding to comments and questions related to your news coverage.
- Compliance: Ensure news reporting adheres to ethical and legal standards, including accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
- Community Engagement: Build relationships within the community, attend local events, and actively engage with viewers or readers to understand their concerns and interests.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the editorial team, photographers, videographers, and other colleagues to create comprehensive news coverage.
- Adherence to Deadlines: Meet daily and weekly deadlines for news reporting and story submissions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communication, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a news reporter is preferred but not required.
- Strong writing and storytelling abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for community journalism and a commitment to delivering unbiased news to the region.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pay: $35,000.00 – $55,000.00 per year
